Ankylosing Spondylitis, safe meds and cortisone injection. Need info please

Hello all,

I just found this website tonight and I am extremely excited to actually find a group that knows VWD. I have type 1.

I have just been diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis after 7 months of excruciating back, butt, leg, heel and eye pain. I actually shed a little tear when the doctor told me that I would be able to have a cortisone injection. All I kept thinking was the pain will finally lower.

After this news hit me, a slew of other questions came to my mind. Answers that I believe will not be correct coming from my doctor or pharmacist. They had given me Cymbalta and I had a very bad reaction to it. I had even asked them if it was safe with VWD. The trip to the ER was not fun.

Back on track. I was wondering if anyone would know or had a cortisone injection if it is safe? What precautions do I have to enforce on the doctor because I basically now have to tell him how to do his job.

Also, if anyone has any info on the type of meds that I can take back to my doctor for ankylosing spondylitis that is safe with VWD. I have had swollen joints years ago in the hands and toes, they thought it was arthritis, Celebrex did not work.

All the help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
Jenny
